Monday (Dec 22) Tristan went into surgery to have his ginormous tonsils removed. The poor kid had the hardest time breathing when he was awake, and an even harder time when he was asleep. After the surgery, the doctor came out and told us that he wasn't sure how Tristan was getting air through at all sinc
e his tonsils were bigger than walnuts and his adenoids were even bigger! They were so big that in the car on the way home from the hospital (about 2 hours after he got out of surgery) he sighed and said, "It's so nice to be able to breathe!" The poor kid! No one knew it was that bad! I don't think he even knew it was that bad.So now he's recovering, and he's doing really well! He's already started eating solid foods, and he's feeling pretty good. I've got some great pictures... I had to document it. :)
The first picture is of Tristan waking up at 5 am so we could be there at 5:30... (waaaayyy too early for my taste.) Then, it's Tristan all ready and waiting to go into surgery. Then it's a picture of Tristan right after surgery. He had to have an oxygen mask for a little bit. They didn't have oxygen going through it, just some moisture, since Tristan started coughing when they woke him up. The moisture calmed his cough down right away, so they kept it on him for a while. Then there's a picture of him, still groggy from the anesthesia but awake, and his poor little swollen face. There's also a picture of him going out to the car. He got to ride in a wheelchair. Woo hoo! :) The last picture is Tristan telling me that he's feeling better and more awake. We were waiting for Tyler to come out of the store with T's prescriptions.
We're pretty excited that Tristan can breathe easier now. We're hoping that means that his attention span will be better, and that he will be able to concentrate and listen easier too. I'm positive that this is only a good thing. I'll keep you posted on how he's doing.
